The grand opening of one local restaurant in downtown Zanesville isn’t only making one family’s dream come true.
Downtown Association Manager, Dana Matz, says it’s helping the downtown area thrive.
"187th business in downtown Zanesville! I challenge people all the time to how many businesses are downtown, and a lot of them get 75, maybe 100-but this is 187, " says Matz.
Elisabeta’s offers a different style of cuisine that you have to venture to Columbus or Cleveland to find.
Owner, Gheorghe Radu says all of the restaurants Romanian, Greek, and Hungarian influenced recipes are made from scratch with seasonings that have been passed down through his family for generations.
He says Elisabeta’s is named for his mother.
"My mother passed away last year, and she always wanted us to have a restaurant. It was something unexpected, but I talked to my sister, and I said if we get to open a restaurant, it would be nice to just give the name to the restaurant. I know she would have been very, very happy, " says Radu.
Radu says his family hope to establish themselves in Zanesville and hope to expand in the future.
