The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is receiving a special present from some young people in the community.
The Community Youth Foundation presented a more than two thousand dollar check to the organization this morning that is to be used for its local disaster relief fund.
"that is the most incredible thing out of this community to see all of the young people really get behind our mission and what we do to help us give back to the community, " says Marlene Henderson of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.
The money was raised by selling "Red Day for the American Red Cross" t-shirts.
Olivia Durant, a graduating senior at Rosecrans High School, was one of those involved. She says it’s important for youth to learn, at an early age, how to give back.
"It really shows us that there’s more than just ourselves and everything that we get wrapped up in, in our daily lives with sports, school, and friends. There’s other things we can put our focus on, and it’s really beneficial toward our community too, " says Durant.
Durant led the "Red Day" efforts at her own school. She and other students were able to present their own check to the Red Cross for 750 dollars back on March 26th.
