Despite the recent unseasonably warm weather, Wednesday marks the official first day of Summer.
We found around 100 area kids Monday at the Muskingum Family "Y" pool on Adams Lane who were busy swimming, playing and trying to find some relief from the hot weather.
Executive Director Craig Miracle said the pool keeps busy with a mixture of kids from the Y’s summer day camp and other area programs.
"I think we’re seeing an increase in the number of "dailies" more so probably on the weekends and during the week, as I mentioned our day camp and then some of the other groups that are coming from the various Latchkeys and other summer programs. We fill the pool up a lot during the day between the hours of noon and 3 p.m.," said Miracle
The kids get to swim for 45 minutes and then take a 15 minute break in order to rehydrate– which miracle said is important on hot days like Wednesday.
"We really encourage people when they’re here, make sure you’re drinking plenty of liquids, especially water, applying your sunscreen, and when you’re not in the water, if you’re trying to relax get up, we’ve got tons of shade here at the part and just go up and sit down and slow your day down and enjoy it," Miracle said.
Miracle added that the Muskingum Family YMCA also offers swimming lessons to the public and to members of the organization.
