Program Retrains the Brain

Local parents gather to discuss the triumphs of their children.

The M.I.N.D Institute held a parents forum for children with different cognitive disorders including Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia. Director, Heather Bennett says the program retrains the brain without the use of any medication.

"We’re doing neuroplasticity which means that we’re rebuilding those networks in the brain so we’re doing brain based training for complex activities. So we’re getting the whole body involved or we’re just doing one side of the body and it’s just building those weaknesses in the brain," said Bennett.

Parents who have come to the M.I.N.D institute say they have seen notable changes in their children’s behavior. Melissa Lynn’s 7 year old son has Autism.

"We started last fall and since then we’ve really have more of a typical little boy now instead of all of the autism traits that we had," said Lynn.

Lynn says she thinks it’s nice to have a space to talk with other parents. Her best advice if you see changes in your child is to seek guidance. The forums will be held quarterly at the M.I.N.D Institute at 311 Main Street in downtown Zanesville.
