The members of Cub Scout Pack 121 out of Dresden worked with East Side Community Ministries to provide care items for the homeless in our area.
Saturday members met in front of Colony Square Mall for their "Fill the Truck" fundraiser. The goal of the event was to have people drive through the parking lot and drop of food and a variety of hygienic products for the less fortunate.
" It’s very difficult for someone who is on food stamps to get toothbrushes and toothpaste and even things like shampoo and soap, so we try and make sure those people’s needs get met. They can’t get a job if they don’t have those items to be able to get their hair cleaned up or things like that, " said Committee Chairperson, Wendy Hartman.
Hartman says that many pantries are low due to the recent holiday season and this was the perfect time to lend a helping hand. She says the event also teaches the boys the importance of volunteering their time and energy to others.
" Food doesn’t come as easy as they feel it does. When mom goes to a store she swipes a credit card and their food is taken care of and this gives them the knowledge that there is someone out there that’s not necessarily in as good of a position as they maybe, " said Hartman.
The fundraiser ran from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the cub scouts would like to thank everyone who came out. Any other donations can be dropped off at East Side Community Ministries.
