Adopt a duck and take it to the races. The local United Way is getting ready for the 8th Annual Rubber Duck Races in September, but they need committee members now to plan the event. They’re having their first committee meeting June 27 at 526 Putnam Ave. The Rubber Duck Race kicks off the United Way’s fall campaign and is the largest fundraising event for the agency. Last year people adopted 1700 ducks at $5 a piece for the race, held at the Longaberger Pool. Ducks are placed in the pool and race with the help of firefighters who push them across the pool using water from their fire hoses. The committee will also be working on finding participants for the celebrity pool race.
