Some people think fishing, hiking and inspecting creatures in a creek are all activities for boys. Well, 6th graders in the Women In Science and Engineering program are proving that notion wrong. The girls are taking part in a one-week summer camp and today they went creeking out at the Muskingum Tech Natural Resource Center. Instructors from Muskingum Tech and the girls’ schools were on-hand to teach the young women about the things they found in the creek. Other activities for the week included lessons on edible plants, fishing and streamlife. They also took a trip to The Wilds, Buckeye Lake and Dillon Lake. The WISE program is designed to show young girls there are all kinds of options and job opportunities for women in the fields of science and math. Earlier this month, WISE had summer camps for high school and middle school aged students.
