The news is bad from the Longaberger Company. On Tuesday the basket making company announced the layoff of 800 employees. Director of Corporate Communications Julie Moorehead says the move is a result of a slowed economy and to align sales levels with production and existing inventory levels. The layoff date is effective on September 21st. Moorehead says the layoffs are coming from the manufacturing operations in Frazeysburg and Hartville and most effects employees hired after april 1st of 1999. Those employes were making between 12 and 15 dollars an hour. Moorehead says supervisors that were hired in that same period may also be part of the layoff. The company says its offering its employees financial sessions and priority on any jobs availble throughout the company On Good Friday of this year Longaberger layed off 400 employees bringing to 12-hundred the number of jobs lost in the past year.
