New Lexington Remains A City

The State says New Lexington is again considered a city thanks to a recent door-to-door count of residents of the Perry County seat. When six New Lexington officials canvasses five-thousand-33 people -- 344 more than the official 2000 census count and 33 more than the state's threshold to be a city. The town sent it's numbers to the state and was certified a city July 10th. The U-S Census Bureau, However, says it's count remains official and New Lexington is a village. New Lexington officals says they area happy with the state"s recognition and likley will not appeal to the census bureau.
