A transportation project is currently developing in Muskingum County. Discussions concerning the introduction of a connector route/extension route North of U.S. 22 and S.R. 93 took place today with Muskingum and Perry county officials in attendance. As far back as 1991, the city of Zanesville has been working on improving its thoroughfare system. After compiling a report outlining the access to main highways, congested traffic in downtown Zanesville and mobility needs in the two counties, Muskingum and Perry county officials decided that there was a need for a connector route to connect the counties. The Muskingum Transformation Improvement District hired M-E Companies out of Westerville to conduct the Muskingum 93 Feasability Study to determine the need for a relocation of the two roads and a connection route as well. Based on work already completed on this project, there are three transportation issues that are being discussed. Traffic safety, economic development, and regional mobility. With M-E Companies conducting the study a lot has been done to get this project off the ground after so long. Additional funding has been applied for the next phase of the project which will include preliminary develpoment and environmental studies.
