Planning for a tragedy of this magnitude isn’t possible. When and if an emergency happens, Genesis Hospital has a disaster plan in place that would be activated with a major response. According to Bridget Gieger, a Trauma Program Manager at Genesis there is a command center, which would hold key people that would be the decision-makers. The emergency department mobilizes and patients with minor injuries are discharged. Then the other hospital personal is called on duty. This is a basic emergency plan that is organized and well put together, but Geiger stresses that it’s hard to imagine a disaster of this magnitude with out chaos. Situation or practice drills are performed regularly by the Emergency Management Team.
