They had two main goals in mind over the weekend, and it wasn’t difficult for them to meet either one of them. The Firefighters of Zanesville were out in the community this weekend to raise money for the families of the New York firefighters who were killed and also to bring the community together and unify the volunteer fire department and the professional firefighters.
They started Friday around noon and ended at 6pm on Saturday. They raised about $35,700 and more money is continuing to pour in. They were at Wal-Mart, Lowe’s and The Colony Square Mall collecting donations from the public. Many businesses and individuals helped the firefighters out by providing their services. If anyone missed the fundraiser this weekend and would still like to contribute to the cause, they can take it to any of the local fire stations where it will then be sent to those in need.
