The Main Street construction project that has been designed to refurbish downtown Zanesville is coming along slowly but surely. Last year the city and ODOT had started working on the section between 7th and 3rd Streets and now they have started Phase II of the project which involves construction from 3rd Street to the “Y” Bridge. The plan should be decided by February and the actual completion date will be in September of 2002. ODOT enhancement monies are being used to finance the project, but the city pays for the engineering and 20 percent of the costs. It is estimated to be a $500,000 project and the first phase was about $650,000. A little over a million dollars will be going towards dressing up downtown and the Main Street area.
