A local man was able to escape an early morning fire at his home on Wabash Avenue unharmed. The Zanesville Fire Department received the call from the dispatcher around 4:30AM. The fire, which was located at 704 Wabash Avenue directly across the street from the fire department, had fully engulfed one section of the home. Luckily, the fire only destroyed the living room area of the house. This gave occupant, Ron Valentine the chance to escape what potentially could have been a deadly blaze. Although Valentine escaped the fire with no injuries, a Zanesville firefighter did sustain minor injuries while battling the blaze. He was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital and later released. The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
