Area fire investigators have now determined the cause of last week’s fire that destroyed a large portion of the Goodwill building in downtown Newark.
Newark fire investigator Tim Smith says all accidental causes have been ruled out and it has been confirmed that the blaze was in fact set. Smith decline to say exactly how the fire started due to the ongoing investigation, that fire began last Friday evening around 6:45 in the loading dock at the building on 55th Street.
Approximately $300,000 in damages have been calculated. Investigators say this investigation may take awhile due to the long list of possible suspects.
Investigators also say that they will look into possible connections between this fire and some other suspicious fires that have occurred in downtown Newark over the last three weeks.
