The holiday season normally is full of happy times...but it can also be a time when some people suffer from depression especially if you've recently lost a loved one. Depression affects many people every year, but family and friends are not powerless. The best advice is to pick up the phone and talk to the grieving person. Judy Hamilton, a consultant at Genesis Hospice says that post-holiday depression can be even worse once everyone else gets back to their normal lives. "Many times family and friends will come in and support the griever, but then after the first of the year they go home and the griever feels like they're forgotten." It's recommended to make it a point each month to call a grieving friend...also you need to be very patient with them and their feelings.
