Governor Bob Taft has signed a bill that creates a statewide Amber Alert system to thwart child abductions. The bill makes permanent an order Taft signed last year creating such a system. Taft created the system following several high profile abductions over the summer. Ohio’s system will enable police to notify the public about missing children and their captors using the existing Emergency Broadcast System and electronic road signs. At least 23 states have Amber Alert plans.
