The man charged in the shooting death of a Blue Rock boy last summer has been found competent to stand trial. Last summer 9-year-old Michael Derwacter was riding his bike in a Zanesville alley when he was shot. Wednesday the former Zanesville man charged in the case was found competent to stand trial. A competency hearing was held for 21-year-old Michael Martin. Doctors declared Martin o-k to face charges of reckless homicide, involuntary manslaughter and discharging a firearm over a public road. Police allege Martin was recklessly firing gunshots down an alley when the child was shot to death on the evening of July 28th of last year.
