During severe winter weather: slow down your speeds. This may seem obvious, but cleared roads can actually be sheets of ice to unsuspecting drivers. Make sure you have supplies in your vehicles at all times. These supplies include a cell phone, a blanket, non-perishable food and bottled water, a flashlight and batteries. Have materials on hand for traction if the road is covered with ice. These materials can be sand or even cat litter. Before you leave for a long trip make sure you have enough gas, and that your car is in proper working order. Lastly, make sure you have ice scrapers and a small shovel. Safe driving!
