An early morning accident claims the life of an office of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department. According to Scott Moore of the St. Clairsville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 29-year old Jason Roberts of Bannock, Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene of a singular vehicle accident that occurred just before 6 this morning. Roberts, who served as the acting police chief for the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and a jailer at the Jefferson County Jail, was traveling east bound on I-70 when he lost control of his vehicle near the St. Clairsville exit. His vehicle struck a guard rail, rolled down an embankment, ejected him from the vehicle, and then landed on top of him. Roberts was not wearing a seatbelt. Although the investigation into the accident continues, Roberts lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speeds and icy road conditions. St. Clairsville is 68-miles east of Zanesville.
