Today signifies the day before Lent: a 40-day religious atonement that Christians observe between Ash Wednesday and Easter. Despite the weather conditions, the celebrations culminated in New Orleans. Once again, Mardi Gras proved to be the party of the season. In Zanesville residents enjoyed other festive traditions, ranging from pancakes to pastry. From the Polish dessert known as Paczki (Punch-key) to the Shrove Tuesday tradition on homemade pancakes, Fat Tuesday festivities abounded throughout Muskingum County as we all prepare for Lent.
