Well Known Zanesville-Newark Businessman Dies

A well-known Zanesville and Newark businessman has died. George Matesich passed way Sunday at the Alterra House in Newark. Matesich was the retired President and Chairman of the board of the Matesich Distributing Company in Newark. He spent over 50 years in the family owned business that was started by his father and late brother John Matesich Junior in 1928. George Matesich was active in the wine segment of the beverage business. He was also active in the community with membership in St. Nicholas Church, the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Eagle’s clubs and the Zanesville Country Club. He was also a World War II veteran. Calling hours are on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Hillis Funeral Home in Zanesville. The funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 am at the St. Nicholas Church in Zanesville. Matesich will be laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery. He was 87 years old.
