Genesis Health Care System is celebrating their one year anniversary as being a Level II OB/GYN care center. On April 1st of last year, the hospital received a Level II designation for the obstetrics unit from the Ohio Department Of Health. Along with being the only hospital in the southeastern Ohio region with that status, the hospital is better equipped to care for babies that are born 2 months prematurely. Premature births are pretty traumatic emotionally and physically on the infant and mother. So keeping the patients locally, instead of transferring them to Columbus, will help patients on their road to recovery. The unit's medical director Dr. Wayne Groux also says that the Level II status would not be possible without the dedication of their pediatricians.
