Libraries statewide could face some dramatic changes if state funding cuts happen as predicted. The House of Representatives is proposing the elimination of the library and local government support fund. The fund supplies over ninety percent of the libraries operating budget in Muskingum County. This means two-thirds of public libraries in the state could close. Library authorities are doing what they can to get local residents to lobby against the bill before the voting process begins. In Zanesville, The John McIntire Library has set up a booth for residents to voice their opinion by signing a petition opposing the bill. The house is voting on the bill next Wednesday. Then it will go to the senate.
