Every three minutes across the United States a child dies from being abused. To make people aware of this cold reality, Muskingum County Children Services is informing the community about these startling statistics. Also the organization believes that recognizing the signs of abuse in a child may one day save his or her life. According to Jackie Bonifield, an employee with MCCS, some of the signs of child abuse are unexplained bruises, poor hygeine, problems focusing, falling asleep during school, and aggresion toward adults. If you suspect abuse of a child in your neighborhood, you can contact Muskingum County Children Services at 455-6710 or visit their office on 205 North 7-th Street in downtown Zanesville. Names of people who report incidents of child abuse are kept anonymous. Also, April has been designated as National Child Abuse Prevention month.
