A two-hour standoff with the Zanesville Police Department ended peacefully early Tuesday morning. The incident started Monday night at around 10:30 p.m. at a home located at 821 Pershing Road. According to Detective Ric Roush, police responded to the home after 911 dispatchers received several hang up calls from the location. Roush says when officers arrived at the scene, 64-year-old Alfred Newsome was talking about killing himself. Newsome reportedly had a handgun. SWAT crews and detectives at the scene were able to convince Newsome to turn over the gun. Roush says Newsome was transported to Bethesda Hospital for mental evaluations. He is facing one charge of inducing panic.
