More than twelve hundred Ohioans die from suicide every year. And it’s the ninth leading cause of death among all people. This week is suicide awareness week and in hopes of lowering the death rate from suicide, area officials are taking part in a program called “Breaking The Silence.” Dr. Vicki Whitacre, director at the Muskingum County Health Department, says those who are considering killing themselves usually give others warning signs. She hopes that by raising awareness people will consider those signs as a plea for help. Mr. Russ Crabtree will be a guest speaker at the Muskingum County Welcome Center. He will have several sessions discussing ways to deal with someone who you think might be considering taking their life. Everyone is welcome to attend the informational sessions on May 20th from 10:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.
