Over the past two weeks, prices at gas stations across the country have been skyrocketing. Here in Zanesville, the story is not different. Gas prices at some stations along Maple Avenue showed most charging between $1.65 and $1.70. Whatever the cost, area drivers are not happy with the added squeeze on their wallets. Sharon Staib from McConelsville said she paid over $22.00 to fill half of her gas tank, when she used to be able to fill it for about $25.00. The national average price per gallon has risen over $.15 in just under half a month, now at $1.75. Analyst Trilby Lundberg said the causes for the recent jump include an Arizona pipeline break and the blackout, which forced eastern refineries to briefly shut down.
