Former Masonic Temple Employee Pleads Guilty to Forgery and Theft

A former employee with the Masonic Temple in Zanesville pleaded guilty Tuesday to 37 counts of forgery. 31-year-old Charles Lewis also pleaded guilty to one count of theft and one count of theft by deception. Lewis was the building manager for the Masonic Temple. Between 2001 and 2002, he reportedly forged and cashed checks from the temple account. According to the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s office, he also deceived the Masonic Temple into paying him $8,900 by claiming he personally paid to have the temple’s boiler repaired. The total theft was $36,000. Lewis faces a possible 40 years behind bars.
