Two McConelsville men are life flighted to OSU medical center after an early morning explosion. Around 7:30 this morning the Muskingum County Sheriff’s department received a call regarding a gas accident near the Muskingum-Morgan county line. According to authorities, four people were trespassing on the JD Gas and Oil site. Later, two of them, Steve Smith and Craig Long, climbed on top one of the tanks. Smith lit a cigarette and that triggered the explosion. Both Smith and Long were transported via helicopter from the scene. The other two, Bobbi Jo Hampton and Russell Larrick were not injured in the blast. Long was not as seriously injured as believed, but Smith is in critical condition.
