A host of superheroes were all in downtown Zanesville Thursday protesting for equal custody rights for parents.

It may sound a little strange but the costumed protestors are part of the Fathers4Justice organization.

Their theme is every parent is a super hero to their kids and the group is calling for the reform of the family court system.

“We need to get rid of the family law attorneys and replace them with mediators,” Media Coordinator Judi Smith-Phelps said. “People that are positioned to offer these families the resources they need.”

Members say the court system should focus on helping parents get along so they can share custody of their kids.

One of the younger protestors says joint custody for kids is best.

“I get to see my father and mother the same amount of time,” Caleb Smith said.

Smith is the son of the group’s media coordinator, Judi Smith-Phelps.

About 10 people took part in the protest.
