It’s a game that is usually played solely for personal profit, but Sunday, people participated to help a local boy.
A Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament was held Sunday afternoon for Justin Waugh, a Crooksville eighth-grader who suffers from a rare eye disease.
The fundraiser was hosted by family friends at the Crooksville Eagle’s Lodge.
“It’s for a good cause. I mean, most of us like to play poker anyway, so we play a couple times a week and if you can come out and help someone at the same time, it’s just a great thing for everybody. Everybody wins, “ explains participant Ric Roe.
The family hopes that the money raised from today’s event will help them travel to Boston to see the only doctor in the United States that deals with Justin’s condition.
“We’ve probably got about $1,600 raised already. Our goal is still another $1,200 to $1,300, total cost of $3,000 that we need. We’re looking at about $200 today,” comments Justin’s father Rick Waugh.
If you were not able to attend Sunday’s fundraiser and you would like to help, the family is looking for donations for the Chinese Auction that they are having on January 21st.
