Students in the Zanesville School District will most likely have a new track and field by the beginning of next school year.

School officials held an informative session today at the Zanesville Administration Building to update boosters on the progress of renovations at the John D. Sulsberger Memorial Stadium.

"The major project will include new turf, new track. We're going to have a new lighting system which will be off of the field, which will create a regulation soccer field. We're also looking at replacing our press box and then the visitor bleachers and then the final touch will be putting in a new sound system, so basically it's a total facelift," said Scott Aronhalt, Zanesville Athletic Director.

Phase one of the project will include a new track, turf and lighting. It should be completed by the fall. When the other upgrades happen at the stadium will depend on the generosity of donors.

"It's a project that's totally separate from the school. The school obviously doesn't have the funds and the community will fund this project and so far they've been really responsive," he said.

A donor has already come forward and paid to have naming rights to the track.
