Hundreds of gardening enthusiasts came out to the Ohio University Zanesville Campus Center to take part in the "Spring Fever" Home Gardening Symposium.

Gardeners learned what to do to transform their yards with landscaping, but also what not to do if they want their yard to flourish.

"I think one of the biggest mistakes we see that our home owners make is the fact that they don't take the time to do a thorough inspection every season to make sure what they have is going to be safe, that it's healthy, that it's not disease ridden. There's a lot of problems in the landscape that can be fixed if they're caught early enough," said Wes McCullough, McCullough's Tree Service.

Indoor gardeners also got some tips from national gardening expert Jim Nau who gave a lecture on "Colorful Containers: How to Use Them."

"We usually tell people that right after you get the container if you've potted up yourself, if you have the container and you plant the plants in it, you go ahead and water them really well the first week. So, water maybe every other day or so, but once it gets established water like once or twice a week at the most and then feed about once every three weeks," said Nau.

Other speakers included Bobbie Swartz with "The Winners" -Best New Perennials and Bill Hendricks "New Woody's."
