A Zanesville man is in the city jail charged with throwing a puppy out of a second story window.

Zanesville Police Detective Sergeant Ric Roush says 23-year-old Brandon Smith is facing one count of cruelty to animals.

Detective Roush says Smith got into a domestic dispute with his brother at 518 McIntire Avenue and threw a small puppy out of the window.

Roush says the puppy is seriously injured and may not survive.

If Smith is convicted he could face up to a year in prison.
