Today, friends and family of Bob Mattingly gathered at Zane State to get a final look at the man who built his empire from scratch.

1947 is when Bob and his wife Bette created Mattingly Seafood in downtown Zanesville. Through the past 60 years, Bob's hard work evolved into Mattingly Foods. Loved ones say there were no boundaries to Bob's generosity.

"He was like a father figure to me. I spent more time with Mr. Mattingly than I did with my own father because the business environment, but it wasn't strictly business. We'd sit down and talk about family," says Rick Barnes CEO.

Friends and family were the most important thing to Bob. In fact, loved ones say through all of Bob's trials, he had one person on his mind.

"His wife Bette. Take care of better. It's always about Bette. See how Bette is," says Kelly Treadway Caregiver.

And it's not Bob Mattingly the business man that loved ones say we should remember, it's Bob Mattingly the loving man who cared deeply for our community.

"It's the little things he would do for people that may go unnoticed. Like the kindness that he would display to people coming in the Cash and Carry. Even in his later years he would give candy to the kids and greet the people. He was just a kind hearted person," says Barnes.

Bob died Friday night at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. Visitation is taking place at Zane State until 8 tonight. The funeral is tomorrow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
