This time of year Carbon Monoxide poisoning makes headlines.

People tend to find alternative kinds of heat to stay warm, or keep their motor vehicle inside a garage for an extended period of time and this could prove to be dangerous.

Jeff Bell is a Zanesville Firefighter and he explains carbon monoxide and why it's so dangerous. "Carbon monxide is a colorless, ordorless and tasteless gas that can be lethal and we want to make sure people understand the severity of it.. the thing about this time of year it's flu season. A lot of the same symptoms you have with the flu are associated with carbon monoxide poisoning."

Bell went on to say its a good idea to purchase a carbon monoxide detector.

There are many symptoms of c-o poisoning.
"Some of the symptoms include, just general fatigue, you can feel nausea, headache's and it may affect different people in different ways. "

Residents of the City of Zanesville can contact the fire department to come out and test their home to see if they have a carbon monoxide problem... But the most important reminder is to purchase a carbon monoxide detector.
