Members of the United Steel Workers Union are traveling across the state of Ohio to gain support for the Buy American resolution.
Billy Boyce with the United Steel Workers Union came to the Muskingum County Commissioners this afternoon to ask for their support to help stimulate the American economy. "There's a part of the stimulus package that requires, Buy American. In that package there's a 25% threshold or cap and any project that goes over 25% they can go outside buying American and go to a foreign market and buy materials and products. What we're trying to do is gain support all across the state from county commissioners, any municipalities to support our resolution."
Buy America is a nationwide resolution and not just for the state of Ohio, which according to Boyce will make buying American products for use with the stimulus funded projects easier. Ultimately creating jobs. "Buy American, the whole ideal is that we're rebuilding the infrastructure of the United States with tax dollars, American tax dollars and the idea is that is going to create American jobs, they're predicting that's going to create 133,000 jobs for Ohio with the stimulus money."
Boyce says support for the resolution around the state has been great. Columbus and Cleveland are just two of the bigger cities in the state that have showed their support.
