Girl Scouts Promote Safety and Awareness
Local girl scout are promoting safety and community awareness.

The girl scouts from Maysville and Philo/Duncan Falls School Districts held a safety fair at the South Zanesville K-Mart. They partnered with State Farm and the Carr Center.

"Well we really want the community to know that health and safety, safety as in getting your car seats inspected or learning about fire safety, we have the smoke house out here from Newton Township, that safety is really important and sometimes we forget or take it for granted how important it really is. If it is reinforced by a community event like this then that is what we are looking for," tells Dani Sprague the Girl Scout leader for Franklin and Maysville Service Unit.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office created free child ID cards. For parents with young children, the event offered free car seat inspections. Also, the Newton Township Fire Department took children through the smoke house to teach fire safety.

"I know the parents say their kids have learned a lot because the firemen actually go in there and help and learning how to correctly use a car seat, which is helping out a lot," says Jami Sprague a Girl Scout with the River Valley Service Unit.

The American Red Cross was on hand for blood donations along with representative from the Muskingum Behavioral Health Center. Big Brother/Big Sisters were also in attendance. Dani Sprague says the Girl Scouts hold an event like this every year.
