Genesis Receives State Award
The Genesis Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center was named the 2009 Outstanding Host Agency Champion Friday by state officials.

Genesis received the honor, because several of their employees are part of the Experience Works program. Experience Works is designed to help unemployed people 55 and older gain training and get back in the work force.

"It's wonderful, it's wonderful, they do so many things. They're dependable, I guess reliable, and they're always here and they're eager to jump into things. They're eager to their jobs," says Tim Johnson, activity director Genesis Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center.

At the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center, Experience Works participants are employed as State Tested Nursing Assistants and floor technicians. The program's state director says Genesis has offered participants great positions.

"They can relate to them. So it's a great field for them. It pays well and it's just a great opportunity for older workers who want to be in the work force to earn a descent living at a job that has benefits and can be very beneficial to them as well as the people they're serving," says Kent Kahn, director Experience Works.

Each month 12,000 Ohioans turn 60 and Barbara Riley, director of the Ohio Department of Aging, says it's important the state prepares to take care of the aging population.

"Not only are we aging in needing care, but our work force itself is aging and in terms of that in the year 2020 more people will be in the work force age 55 and above than under," says Riley.

If you are eligible to participate in the Experience Works program and would like more information you can contact their Zanesville office at 454-3000.
