Zanesville High School Absences

There's a bug going around the Zanesville School District, and it's affecting attendance, especialy at Zanesville High School.

Coordinator of Operations and Student Services, Kevin Appleman says about 350 students called off sick on Monday and Tuesday, and he says fortunately, that number has dropped back to about 250 student today.

"It's the flu. It's that time of year for everybody to be sick, " says Appleman.

Appleman wants to stress that these are not confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus.

He says the district is trying to prevent the seasonal flu from spreading even more.

"We're telling the custodians to make sure they're washing down the desks, door handles, railings, pencil sharpeners, and everything, " says Appleman.

He's asking that parents keep their kids home if they have a fever or aren't feeling well.

Appleman says the district is working closely with the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department and sent a letter home with students Friday and Monday to give parents information they need to be aware of.

Appleman says if parents have any questions or concerns, to contact Zanesville City Schools at 740-454-9751.
