Ohio University officials are verifying that a first-year student-who lives in a dormitory on the main campus-has contracted a case of bacterial meningitis.

They say Charles Wulf is being treated at a hospital in Columbus and is listed in stable condition.

His roommates were notified, taken to O'Bleness Hospital in Athens, and were treated for possible exposure to the illness.

OU officials say they are sanitizing Wulf's room along with common areas and bathrooms throughout the dormitory.

Bacterial meningitis is a serious illness and can be fatal if not treated.
