Some South Zanesville water customers are not happy after learning their water bills are going up 40 percent. The Village sent out letters to customers this past week. Mayor Richard Guss says it's not as bad as it sounds. He says a person living in the village, considered a minimum user – 500 cubic feet of water – would see their bi-monthly bill go form $17.42 to $24.39. If that person lived outside of the Village the same bill would go from $26.16 to $36.58. Mayor Guss says even with the increase South Zaneville boasts the lowest priced water in the county with the exception of Philo. Guss say the price spike is due to the increase in chemical costs, the need to upgrade the pumps and filters at the Water Plant and the need to upgrade water meters at each residence.
