A new ordinance in the city of Newark is proposing to allow bow hunting of deer with in the city limits.

Don Ellington, a Fifth Ward Councilman, says Newark has a serious deer problem and efforts through non-lethal means have not worked. The new ordinance would be similar to Granville's urban deer hunting program and require hunters to obtain an additional license.

Hunting would not take place near bike paths, homes, streets or schools, and only bow hunting would be permitted.

Ellington says the ordinance will be read for a second time before council November 2nd. He hopes it will be passed sometime in December.
