As the cold temperatures creep up on us the Ohio Department of Transportation is getting ready for old man winter.
Over the next few weeks O-DOT teams are inspecting, testing and fine-tuning all their equipment.
"Our trucks and equipment are prepared. We also send our crews through a snow and ice school and it's a refresher course for them to make sure they know the best tactics for the snow season,"says Kate Stickle of District 5 Communications.
This is all part of their Operational Readiness Event that gets the plows, trucks and salt ready before winter storms arrive. Stickle says the first snow storm is usually the worst.
" We really encourage everyone to plan ahead and prepare for that first snow storm. Make sure you clear your vehicle off, make sure you leave enough time to get to your destination, make sure you take it slow. Our slogan every year is Ice and Snow Take it Slow because it's so important as a motorist to take it slow during the ice and snow season," says Stickle.
Stickle tells WHIZ that they are all stocked up on salt.
"If we have an issue needing salt we can have our recourses shifting from county to county," says Stickle.
Stickle says you can get updated road conditions at BuckeyeTraffic.org.
