More than a thousand senior citizens attended a free dinner, this afternoon, held by the Fraternal Order of Police in Zanesville.
This is the 25th anniversary for the FOP dinner for senior citizens. The FOP says it's law enforcement's way of saying thank you for all the support senior citizens give. Patrolman Tom Porter says it's an event the senior's look forward to every year.
"They love it, they love it, it is smiles upon smiles and just thanks a lot of people we see year after year. This is our 25 year anniversary and we started out on West Main with 150 attendees and today we had 1100 attendees with 400 meals delivered," tells Ptl. Tom Porter the President of the FOP Zane Lodge 5.
Ptl. Porter says senior citizens are the foundation of the community. Bonnie Mills, who has attended the dinner for the last ten years, says it's a great time to see friends and meet local officers.
"I think this is the most wonderful thing that we could have in Zanesville and Muskingum County," tells Mills.
The senior citizens were provided with a free meal, door prizes and gifts. The event was held at the Center for Seniors at Sunrise.
