An elderly couple is sent to Licking Memorial Hospital after an accident in Newark.
It happened just before nine p.m. last night on Thornwood Road.
Newark Fire Department Assistant Chief Bill Spurgeon says an SUV went off the side of the road and struck a tree.
He says authorities were able to get 78-year-old Royle Campbell out of the car relatively easily, but he says it took crews about 50 minutes to extract 75-year-old Barbara Campbell from the car. Spurgeon says the driver's side was significantly damaged and crews has to literally cut her out of the car.
He says weather is believed to have played a role in the incident.
The extent of the Campbells' injuries is unknown at this time.
