Elderly Couple Not a Target

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion in Nashport.

It happened around 7:30 last night in the 6800 block of Swingalong Drive.

"They had two people that forced their way into the house and did produce a weapon. There was an item that was taken from the residence, " says Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Lutz says a 76-year-old man and his 67-year-old wife were home at the time of the incident. The two also live with their grandson.

"We don't think it's a thing where they targeted an elderly couple or anything like that. It's just a situation where the suspects possibly knew somebody living there or knew of somebody living there. So, we're still trying to get those details, " says Lutz.

The elderly man sustained minor injuries from the incident but did not need to be taken to the hospital.

Lutz says his office has spoken to a potential suspect, who provided an alibi. So far, no one has been taken into custody.
