Cold weather made for what Corning Fire crews call extremely icy conditions as they battled a fire in the Village Friday morning.

The fire at the home of the Murphy's at 13966 Waterworks Road broke out around 4am. Living in the home were 50-year-old Amy, 82-year-old Dorothy, 54-year-old Theresa, 23-year-old  Laci and 2-year-old Caiden Murphy.

The home is considered a total loss and the family has no insurance.

Fire officials say the family got out safely. Corning crews were on the scene until 9am. They were assisted on the scene by New Straitsville, Shawnee and New Lexington fire departments.

Officials say the State fire Marshals may be called in to investigate. The Red Cross is assisting the family with funding to go shopping for clothing and food. The family will stay with friends and relatives.
