As the aftershocks continue in the poverty-stricken country of Haiti, locally one group is organizing a fundraiser to help.
The Knights of Columbus will sponsor a brunch this weekend to benefit those suffering in Haiti.
"We're going to have a Haiti relief brunch," said Grand Knight Chris Kerby. "It will have breakfast and lunch. This money will go to the American Red Cross. We will also have a can set up for the Catholic Relief Services. All this money will go directly to Haiti."
Kerby said they chose the American Red Cross because of how quickly they respond to disasters throughout the world.
"Last week we just got together after watching the news and seeing how things were going--last night they had a 6.1 earthquake which also hurt things," he said. "We decided we should do something for them."
The brunch will be sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall in Sunrise Center. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.
The food will be cooked by the Dooleys who formerly owned and ran the 4th Street Diner.
